March has two birthstones – Aquamarine and Bloodstone.
The aquamarine – also called the “poor man’s diamond”, can range in colour from deep blue to a greenish-blue, and said to be the crystal of courage and peace.
The name aquamarine comes from the Romans, “aqua,” meaning water, and “mare,” meaning sea, because it lookes like sea water. Aquamarines were believed to have originated from the jewel caskets of mermaids, washed ashore from the depths of the sea.
Beginning in the Roman period, the aquamarine was believed to possess medicinal and healing powers, curing ailments of the stomach, liver, jaws, and throat.
Aquamarine is an excellent stone for meditation, it will help attune you to nature - quiet the mind and reduce stress.
The second birthstone for March is the Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope,
a dark green stone with red flecks.
Bloodstone is an excellent blood cleanser, a powerful healing stone, it helps to circulate energy in the body and remove energy blocks. Bloodstone heightens intuition and increases creativity. It is grounding, protecting and encourages selflessness and idealism.
Ancient alchemists used it to treat blood disorders, including blood poisoning and the flow of blood from a wound. Bloodstone was also believed to draw out the venom of snakes.
