Chewing Tulsi leaves relieves cold and flu, and in treating all disorders that are related to our throat, by removing the catarrhal matter and phlegm from the bronchial tube. Water boiled with basil leaves can be taken as drink in case of sore throat. This water can also be used as a gargle.
Applied locally, basil juice is beneficial in the treatment of ringworm and other skin diseases.
Tulsi contains vitamin C and other anti oxidants, which protect the heart from harmful effects of free radicals and reduces the level of blood cholesterol.
Thanks to Vitamin C and other anti oxidants in Tulsi, apart from repairing damages done by the free radicals, it can minimize the stress induced by these oxidants. They soothe nerves, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation and thus reduce stress.
Tulsi is very helpful in relieving headaches and body pain. It has certain properties that helps in releasing spasm in the muscles hence is extremely helpful in relaxing the body.
Vitamin- C, A, Phytonutrients and the essential oils in it are excellent anti oxidants and protects the body from nearly all the damages caused by the free radicals. In traditional Indian medicine system called Ayurveda, it is considered as a tonic to retain youth and avoid aging.
The tulsi plant has many medicinal properties. The leaves are a nerve tonic and also sharpen memory. The leaves strengthen the stomach and induce perspiration.
A decoction of the leaves, with honey and ginger is an effective remedy for bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold.
A decoction of the leaves, cloves and common salt also gives immediate relief in case of influenza. They should be boiled in half a liter of water till only half the water is left and add then taken.
Use as a stress-relieving, energizing, immune boosting and delicious tea, use it in salads, mix in pesto or pistou, add wherever possible.
