This resonates very much with me; rest, cleanse and strengthen.
"There never needs to be a cure for the common cold, since the common cold is nature’s way of keeping you healthy over the long term. And so long as you get plenty of rest and strive to stay hydrated and properly nourished during a cold or flu, there is no need to get vaccinated or to take medications that suppress congested sinuses, a fever, or coughing. All of these uncomfortable symptoms are actually ways in which your body works to eliminate waste products and/or help your body get through a cold or flu. It’s fine to use over-the-counter pain medication like acetaminophen if your discomfort becomes intolerable or if such meds can help you get a good night’s rest. But it’s best to avoid medications that aim to suppress helpful processes such as fever, coughing, and a runny nose."
Ginger, honey, lemon balm, zinc and lemon are good companions if any virus hit.
Winter sore throat tea.
Make sure you have some of this ready...great recipe for sore throats and chest colds
makes about 2 cups
◾2 lemons thoroughly cleaned and sliced
◾2 piece of ginger about the size of your pointer and middle finger together sliced into coin size pieces
◾Honey (about 1 cup-maybe more)
In a 12-16 oz. jar combine lemon slices and sliced ginger.
Pour honey (organic is best) over it slowly. This may take a little time to let the honey sink down and around the lemon and ginger slices. Make sure when the honey has filled in all the voids, there is enough to cover the top of the lemon slices.
Close jar and put it in the fridge, it will form into a "jelly". To serve: Spoon jelly into mug and pour boiling water over it.
Store in fridge 2-3 months.
Adding a little Brandy couldn't hurt either!
thanks to www.greenyatrablog.com for this lovely recipe.
This basic Wellness Program can be used when suffering from any (chronic) disease as it detoxifies the body and restores the biochemistry of the body, so the body has the tools to repair itself. It can also be used to maintain health and well being.
Key to the Wellness Program is the lemon and olive oil mixture, which detoxifies the body, assists the liver to function properly, and helps to get the ph of the body back to normal in the shortest of time. People who are not well have usually an acid body, which means the ph of the urine is below 7. For optimal health a healthy person’s ph should be between 7.1 and 7.3. When you have cancer, your ph should be 7.5 or above, as then any cancer stops growing, which gives you time to get rid of the cancer. You can buy urine strips to test your urine yourself.
To make 1 portion of the lemon / olive oil mixture:
It does take some getting used to, as it is more bitter than sour, but definitely drinkable:-)

The Egyptians were using wicked candles in 3,000 B.C., but the ancient Romans are generally credited with developing the wicked candle before that time by dipping rolled papyrus repeatedly in melted tallow(animal fat) or beeswax.
Historians have found evidence that many other early civilizations developed wicked candles using waxes made from available plants and insects. Early Chinese candles are said to have been molded in paper tubes, using rolled rice paper for the wick, and wax from an indigenous insect that was combined with seeds. In Japan, candles were made of wax extracted from tree nuts, while in India, candle wax was made by boiling the fruit of the cinnamon tree.
In the 1820s, French chemist Michel Eugene Chevreul discovered how to extract stearic acid from animal fatty acids. This lead to the development of stearin wax, which was hard, durable and burned cleanly.
Paraffin wax was introduced in the 1850s, after chemists learned how to efficiently separate the naturally-occurring waxy substance from petroleum and refine it.
Candles enjoyed renewed popularity during the first half of the 20th century, when the growth of U.S. oil and meatpacking industries brought an increase in the byproducts that had become the basic ingredients of candles – paraffin and stearic acid(animal byproduct).
The 1990s witnessed a great surge in the popularity of candles, and for the first time in more than a century, new types of candle waxes were being developed. In the U.S., agricultural chemists began to develop soybean wax, a softer and slower burning wax than paraffin. On the other side of the globe, efforts were underway to develop palm wax for use in candles.
So for us who want to stay toxic free without using animal products there are options, although mentioned in an earlier blog, we need to make sure the fragrances used are not of the toxic kind.
I am pretty upset and saddened by the fact, walking through Bloomingdale's the other day, as I realize that a lot of nice brands are using fur in their clothing lines; Aqua, French Connection, BCBG, Joie, Marc Jacobs to mention a few. (Bloomingdale's being just an example as the designers sell there stuff in many other places.)
It makes me very sad that people are totally ignorant to the fact of other living beings suffering, putting their head in the sand like it is not there, focusing on their own vanity.
Buh for Bloomingdale's, buh for the design lines and buh for people buying it!
Dog skin I believe are used frequently for bags, belts and shoes as well :-(
So we need to think before shopping.
Purslane is usually used as a super easy to grow ornamental plant, but in addition it is a great source of vitamins A, C and E, and the richest known plant source of omega 3 fatty acids. Purslane has plenty of magnesium, and helps fight chronic fatigue syndrome, and headaches. The plant even contains lithium, a mood stabilizing compound that helps ease depression. Pick a few flowers, leaves and stems for your sallad. Juice from the plant leaves soothe burns, insect bites and stings, and ear aches. For cosmetic uses it is an excellent skin cleanser and astringent, and may be helpful in treating acne and wrinkles.
Being vegetarian since for ever, and herbalist as well, I have often being asked and wondered myself, how the plants react to being cut and "killed".
What I slowly start to understand, is that plants have reactions, but not emotions, I still haven't figured it out completely, but with time I am sure all will be clear.
October has two birthstones – Opal and Tourmaline.
The name Opal is derived from the Sanskrit word “upala,” as well as the Latin “opalus,” meaning “precious stone.”
To ancient Romans, the Opal was a symbol of love and hope.
In the Middle-ages the Opal was supposed to maintain a strong heart, prevent fainting, protect against infection, and cleanse foul-smelling air.
Shakespeare wrote of the Opal in the Twelfth Night as the “queen of gems".
Interestingly Australian aborigines see the Opal in a different light, to them the Opal is the devil that lurks in the ground, a half-serpent and half-human with flashes of wicked magic that lures men to destruction, would be fun to hear the story behind that belief.
Tourmaline comes in many colors; black, brown, blue, pink, green, yellow and the nameTourmaline is believed to derive from the Singhalese (Sri Lankan) word “toramalli,” a term applied to stones, that means “something little out of the earth.”
Tourmaline is a relatively new discovery and therefore lacks in interesting old stories about its abilities, although the stone is known as a protector and "peace stone", believed to dispel fear.
Many brands put "natural flavor" in their ingredient list, trying to make the product seem healthier, better and purer than it actually is; unfortunately this is a way for companies to cover up the inferior taste, ability and low quality of their product. Fortunately, there are also brands that decide not to add any flavors, totally aiming for the pure and natural, using all real ingredients. Ahmed Rahim for example of Numi teas said “You can breakdown anything that is found in nature, and if it ends up tasting like the flavor you wish to use – you can add it to any product and call it NATURAL FLAVOR on the ingredient label. It could come from a stone in the ground and you’d never know.” This is why when the words “natural flavor” are listed on a label – I put the product down and run.
