Cloves (Sygizium aromaticum) are the "flower buds" from an evergreen rain-forest tree native to Indonesia, and an excellent source of manganese, a very good source of vitamin K and dietary fiber, and a good source of iron, magnesium, and calcium.
Cloves has local anesthetic and antiseptic properties, and can improve the digestion power by increasing gastro-intestinal enzyme secretion.
Cloves may also relieve upper respiratory infections. Ayurveda suggests making a tea to lessen, or prevent, colds and flu. It is also used as an expectorant, making it easier to cough up phlegm. Cloves are a natural painkiller and also attack germs, so they'll help you get rid of that sore throat.
Use clove oil to massage sore muscles; some also use it for arthritis and rheumatism.
A useful but often forgotten piece of heaven.
